Deliverables

Since early 2017, Forest Design has served as the Center for Plant Conservation’s outsourced marketing and IT department and provides extensive services and strategy as needed. This includes creating a monthly digital newsletter to feature prominently on the saveplants.org website – which we then widely promote through email and social media; creating Annual Reports since 2017; developing print and digital collateral for their mid-year and end-of-year donation campaigns; 35th anniversary branding; network handbooks; website updates and maintenance; and large screen presentations. We work closely with the CPC team to help strategize creative ways to spread the word about the importance of plant conservation.

Forest Design also contributed key technical information to assist CPC in obtaining a $476,000 National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to create Plant Nucleus, a real-time learning platform. We then designed and developed Rare Plant Academy (formerly named Plant Nucleus), a web-based community platform that allows experienced plant scientists and beginning conservationists alike to understand and exchange conservation techniques in real time. The Rare Plant Academy (RPA) is built around the guide book CPC Best Plant Conservation Practices to Support Species Survival in the Wild and integrates forums, videos, photo galleries and community conversation. Using RPA, conservationists are much better equipped to save more plants.

The Client

The Center for Plant Conservation is saving the rarest of rare plants for future generations – working with botanists to protect endangered plants. They build conservation knowledge and techniques to be used and shared globally to ultimately increase the number of protected plants in perpetuity.

We have accomplished a tremendous amount for CPC in the past 4+ years. After updating and redesigning the saveplants.org website we instituted a comprehensive donor campaign that incorporates the web, social media and e-newsletter outreach. We also created a new section on the website that regularly generates dynamic content, which has greatly improved their SEO rankings. While developing the monthly newsletters, we created a comprehensive social media campaign featuring the botanical research of several of our Participating Institutions, botanical gardens and arboretums that work to save endangered plants. This has greatly increased engagement on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and has created awareness about need to preserve these plants. We are now deep into developing phase 2 of CPC’s seminal project “The Rare Plant Academy” and the launch of Phase 1 at their 2018 National Meeting was met with great success. Forest Design continues to work with the CPC team to meet all of their technology and collateral needs.
